It is perfectly positioned to allow me to play peek-a-boo with my inner child...  

This little act of peek-a-boo brings me an endless ammount of joy and comfort anytime I need it!  I can play peek-a-boo with friends and stangers with it too!  It truly is delightful... 

What is the Hidden Eyelash Society?

The society is a group of people who all have this exact same tattoo on their hand, in just this position - people who fell in love with my tattoo and wanted to be able to play peek-a-boo with their own inner child anytime they feel like it.

NOTE: If you are struggling to remember the name - the left most eyelash is NOT a lost or secret or missing  eyelash - it is a hidden eyelash - because it is actually still there, it is just hidden, because this eye is always playing peek-a-boo with you. 

ALSO NOTE: If you see me out and about someplace, please ask - I likely have a few Hidden Eyelash tattoo's on me to share. Hidden Eyelash Society Origin Story

I got my tattoo in April of 2024, but the society didn't start until early September of 2026. I was at a regional Burning Man event called Playa Del Fuego when a lovely human named George asked me if I could tell them the meaning of my tattoo. I played peek-a-boo with them and told them my tattoo origin story (below) and they got super excited - found a pen - and asked if I could draw the same tattoo on their hand so they too could play peek-a-boo with their own inner child. Several other friends soon had me draw it on their hands too. 

When we were up to six of us, George started saying we needed to start a cult, and that we needed to come up with a secret handshakes and a name - we soon decided on the Cult of the Hidden Eyelash. Before the weekend was over we had drawn this eye image on at least two dozen hands! The next burn I went to, Sunburn in August 2026, I had temporary tattos of the design made up and OMGoodness it was cool how everyone had the EXACT same image as mine. At least a dozen people joined my "cult" that weekend, and 3 or 4 said they were absolutely going to get the actual tattoo when they got home . When I set out to make this website I changed the name to the Hidden Eyelash Society because, well, this isn't actually a cult, and I am not cut out to be a cult leader. But a Society? That I can start...  and you can join if you want to get my tattoo (even if only temporarily) and play peek-a-boo with your inner child! 

My Tattoo Origin Story

I finally got my tattoo in April of 2024, after carrying a printout of the image around with me inside my cell phone case for almost 10 years, ready for when I had the chance to have this tiny little tattoo etched onto me.  The design was created for me by Eileen Tjan, and it included all 5 eyelashes. I wanted to get an eye tattooed on my hand to help remind me to make eye contact when I was at a big trade show with crowds of people all weekend.

When the tattooist transfered the design to my hand, they dropped an eyelash. I still don't know if they did it on purpose or if it was a mistake, but I didn't notice. They finished the tattoo, gave me care instructions, took my money - and as I was exiting the shop - I noticed that a line was missing from my design - and I froze.  I stopped - halfay in/out of the shop - my friend Josh looked back at me asking if I was ok... and I just stood there frozen, not knowing what to do.   INSIDE - that group of younger inner parts of me debated. Teenage me (Kris) was mad - they messed up, they can't get away with that - go back in and set things right. 7 year old me (Kristi) was scared - how do we fix this so that everyone is ok with the outcome - it was such a tiny tattoo that starting up again to fix this would be all the same work over again.  But it was Baby Kristin (BK) who jumped in and took control - I reached out with the thumb of my right hand, covering my new tattoo, and said PEEK-A-BOO quietly to myself and giggled.  A huge smile spread across my face as I realized just how cool this design was, and that the missing eyelash just meant that the tattoo was always playing peek-a-boo.  BK said this is MY tattoo, and don't you dare go make them add that extra line - and we unfroze and walk out of the shop. 

I get this same big huge giggly smile on my face whenever I play peek-a-boo with BK. When something bad or scary happens, I can look down at my hand - take a deep breath - and center myself. I appreciate this gift that this tattoo artist unknowinly gave me more than they could ever know.
